The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is partnering with Sarasota and Manatee counties to supply high-tech InSync Traffic Signal Adaptive System and BlueTOAD devices (Bluetooth technology-based travel time/speed measurement devices.) As part of a pilot project, the devices are planned to be deployed at 18 intersections along University Parkway, with 15 in Sarasota County and 3 in Manatee County. The InSync system will be able to adjust signal timing in response to "real time" traffic demands based on parameters provided by the county's engineering staff. The BlueTOAD devices will collect anonymous travel time and average speeds for the roadway to help report the system's performance.

Costs:

FDOT will pay for the equipment, which will cost up to $497,250 for Sarasota County and up to $161,654 for Manatee County, according to county documents. However, Sarasota County and Manatee County are each paying for their respective installation costs, with Sarasota's tab at $211,221 and Manatee's at $80,000. The project total is estimated to be $950,125.
